8.1 Comparing fractions using common denominator.



To compare fractions:


Same denominator Same numerator Other case
If they have the same denominator, the lower fraction is the fraction which has the lower numerator:
If they have the same numerator, the lower fraction is the fraction which has the greater denominator:
In another case, we reduce to common denominator and then we do like in the first case. Have a look in the next exercise:

Exercise. Reduce to common denominator and compare the fractions, ordering from lowest to greatest.

1st. Figure out the LCM of the denominators. 2nd. Find equivalent fractions with a new denominator, the LCM 3rd. Order the fractions with the same denominator, and with this, the initials ones


The new denominator is 36.
